One-sentence summary

We do not ask for registration, we do not sell data and we do not use your reading data to target ads. The site displays Google AdSense advertising, which may use its own cookies.

1. Who we are

Peste.com.br is an independent informational site about plague (Yersinia pestis) and the Irkutsk laboratory case. We are not a health authority and we do not provide medical services. Privacy contact: [email protected].

2. What data we process

  • No registration data. There is no login, account, newsletter or personal data submission form.
  • Access logs. The server automatically records information such as IP address, date and time, page accessed and browser identification (user agent). These logs are used for security, abuse prevention and technical diagnostics, and are kept for a limited period.
  • Local preferences. We store in your browser (localStorage) only interface choices, such as light/dark theme and whether you have seen the cookie notice. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Peste.com.br itself does not set tracking cookies. However, the site displays third-party advertising, and those third parties may set cookies and identifiers in your browser, including for advertising.

  • Advertising cookies: set by Google and its partners to serve, frequency-cap and measure ads, and to personalise advertising according to your interests.

4. Google AdSense advertising

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
  • The use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve personalised ads based on your browsing.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings, or more broadly at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Learn more in the Google Advertising Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Our editorial content is not influenced by advertisers. We do not sell or share your personal data.

5. EEA, UK and Switzerland visitors (GDPR)

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the legal basis for personalised advertising is consent. In addition to Google's certified consent message (when enabled in AdSense), we show a notice on the site where you can accept or reject advertising cookies. We use Google Consent Mode: by default, ads are non-personalised and only become personalised after your consent. You can review or withdraw consent at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

6. Your rights (LGPD — Brazilian Law No. 13,709/2018)

Under Brazilian data protection law you may request: confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymisation, portability (where applicable), deletion of data processed based on consent, and information about sharing. To exercise these rights, write to [email protected].

7. Security and retention

  • The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
  • Access logs are kept only for as long as necessary for the purposes described.
  • We take reasonable technical measures to protect the site and the data processed.

8. Children

This site is not directed at children and does not intentionally collect data from children under 13.

9. External links

We cite and link to external sources (WHO, CDC, news outlets). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
